Pit bull kills 2-month-old baby in bouncing seat at Dallas home

USPA News - A 2-month-old Texas boy was killed Sunday after the family`s pit bull turned on him when his father briefly stepped outside to turn on a sprinkler system, a police spokeswoman said. The child`s mother arrived home during the attack and also suffered injuries.
The incident happened at about 4:54 p.m. local time on Sunday when Dallas police officers responded to a report of an animal attack at a residence in the 6800 block of Beechnut Street, police spokeswoman Tramese Andrews said. A seriously injured 2-month-old boy was located and rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. "[The] homeowner was at home alone with his 2 month old son, with the pet pit bull inside the residence. The homeowner went outside to turn on [a] sprinkler system," Andrews said. "When he returned inside, the dog was attacking the child who was in a bouncing seat. While attempting to remove the child from the dog, the mother walked in." The mother was bitten twice before the father was able to grab the dog by its neck, after which he took the dog outside and shot it twice. It was not immediately known whether the mother sustained any serious injuries, and it was also unclear whether the dog had been killed in the shooting. Dozens of people die annually as a result of dog attacks in the United States. The website DogsBite.org reports that 31 people were killed in the United States last year as a result of attacks by pit bull and pit mix dogs. More than 1,000 Americans are treated every day as a result of dog bites.
