NY: 4 children among 7 killed in traffic accident

USPA News - At least seven people were killed in a fatal traffic accident in the state of New York, officials said Thursday. A tractor trailer and a minivan crashed on Wednesday night at around 6 p.m. local time on Route 13 between Crains Mills and West Keeney roads in the town of Truxton in upstate New York.
According to Cortland County Sheriff`s Department, the tractor-trailer was traveling southbound when the trailer apparently detatched, slid across to the other lane, and struck the minivan, which was traveling north, WXHC radio reported. Emergency teams responded to the accident, and the coroner`s office later confirmed that seven of the eight people on board the minivan lost their lives. Among those killed were three adults in their 20s and four children, all under ten years old. One person survived the accident and was transferred to the University Hospital in Syracuse. The powerful impact ripped the minivan apart. The driver and passenger of the tractor trailer, which is owned by Newton Salvage from Georgetown in Madison County, survived the accident. Both vehicles ended up on the east side of the road where the driver was clearly shaken by the incident. The trailer was carrying crushed vehicles. The victims` identities were not immediately revealed.
